This Memorial Day,

Let us honor the veterans who
remind us of freedom's cost.

Dear Patriots,

Memorial Day is a time to remember those who have died in our nation's service, giving the ultimate sacrifice – their very lives – for our freedom.

President Ronald Reagan believed in the greatness of America with every fiber of his being, and his love and devotion always spoke to our hearts in passionate conviction whenever he addressed the nation. In his First Inaugural Address of January 20, 1981, President Reagan paid homage to our warrior heroes, singling out young Martin A. Treptow, an unsung American private killed in France in World War I who left behind a "soldier's pledge" of duty and moral courage.

America had just resoundingly repudiated the "malaise" of the impotent Carter years, electing the proud patriot Reagan in a landslide. Nearing the close of his Inaugural Address, President Reagan spoke of American heroism. Struggling to control his voice, he drew attention to "the sloping hills of Arlington National Cemetery with its row upon row of simple white markers" and the selfless sacrifice of America's warriors in the cause of peace and liberty.

Just over one hundred fifty years ago, President Lincoln stood at Gettysburg and honored those who gave "the last full measure of devotion. We must resolve," he said, "that these dead shall not have died in vain," and calls to us across the century to rededicate ourselves to "a new birth of freedom."

The preservation of liberty and democracy requires a population who remembers that our freedoms are a gift from God and recognizes the necessity of living according to a Biblical standard of justice.

We civilians can't begin to match the sacrifices of our brave men and women in uniform, but we can honor them by fighting to keep God's name in America, as well as preserving and teaching America's true Godly heritage.
